The Unseen Shepherd

This past summer we visited Ada Bible Church on Sunday Nights for a sermon Series called Poetry of Trust. Pastor Jeff spoke on select Psalms and how they were writ as an expression of what David was going through. Basically, The Stories behind the Songs. One particular sermon struck me powerfully. When David writes: "The Lord is my Shepherd," this declaration has deep meaning for David. He was a Shepherd. He really knew what it meant to defend the sheep against bears and lions. Wouldn't most of us run from beasts and protect ourselves? Might I have thought if I were a shepherd that my life was more costly than one little lamb? Save myself - and let the beast have just one? God's love for us borders on insanity. He loves us insanely. To say He is our Shepherd - is a stronger statement than I credited it.
Soon after that - I found a scripture: I have not run away from being your Shepherd...
At the leadership Summit Bill Hybels opened his talk with another Shepherd speech - were we owners or hired hands? The Owners would give their life for somthing - a hired hand will just do the minimum required.
I woke up sometime in the wee hours one night and wrote a song. It's called the Unseen Shepherd. The date that I wrote it was the same day (we found out later) that our Chidren had been brought to Hannah's Hope Orphanage from the State Run Orphanage Enat Alem.
I am recording that song tonight - just as a demo, but am thoughtful to reflect on all the ways God brought this song together - what it means to me and also, the timing of bringing Dibora and Yabsira home.
The Chorus:
Forever Found, Forever Found
You were never outside the Fold
Safe inside, Safe and Sound
Loved, Rescued, Known
You're Forever Home
