I'm up early this morning doing some prep time for a worship service I'm leading this weekend. I was laughing to myself because last year when I led this service at Triponds we stopped at this really amazing totally organic restaurant for lunch. It was Roland and me and Claire and Simon. Lunch cost over 50.00. This year I'm thinking that little dive Diner on our way in Hamilton. There's 7 of us! -- full time! And, if Kyle brings a friend..
We had a hilarious 4th of July. Gertie thought the Fireworks were stupid. Ollie thought they were amazing. We rode our bicycles downtown with all our Bokma Aunties and Uncles and Cousins. There were 21 of us. -- All on bicycles. Ollie is four - and kept up just fine. The kid is nuts on a bicycle. He would get over confident at times and turn around to look behind him and then ride into a hedge -- but he never fell.
The other day Ollie was laying on his bedroom floor while I was neatening up. He was humming to himself sweetly and pushing his matchbox car. I thought to myself - he's home. You can't just lay on the floor singing to yourself without a care in the world - unless you have none. I recently went hunting through my journals to see what I had written on the day of Ollie and Gertie's birth. I found a random passage on the date that Ollie was born. It had nothing to do with what I was journaling about that day - but somehow I must have read it and jotted it down... Daniel 6: and when he was lifted from the Lion's Den, no would was found on him. Yes, sure - I'll recieve that prophecy.
One thing that I've noticed and we have been working on was just encouraging Gertie and Ollie to play. They know how to color... but for them to just go off and use their imagination is really tough for them. So, they have heard quite often: "go play, I want you to just go play." I don't want to structure everything for them - but for them to seek out what to do with themselves. It's been interesting have to teach this! Anyway, so yesterday I say to Ollie that I have a job for him to do. He says, totally exasperated with me, scrunched up nose and furrowed brow: "But Mo-om, I'm puh-lay-ying!" Well, okay then!
Ollie said "what the heck" at the dinner table the other night. We asked him where he heard that and he said "Yabi so funny - what the heck, what the heck."
