Under-Shepherding

I'm teaching our choir sunday school class tomorrow. I was sitting working through some scriptures on our call to be "under-shepherds" -- accountable to the The Great Shepherd. And Gertie comes running in giggling and telling me something about Ollie in Amharic. I get up because I need to understand what she is saying - so I follow her outside. She wanted to show me that Ollie was using an old corn cob from the compost pile and a big pine cone to comb his hair. We were laughing at the silliness when Gertie fell backward on the sidewalk and hurt her bum.
She started crying pretty hard and I picked her up and cradled her on the front stoop. And it's one of those moments all parents have when our hearts becomed pained -- wishing your child didn't fall, you caught her in time before she had a chance to get hurt. And it was so quick - that response on my mind and reminder of our job as shepherds: it's not that she shouldn't ever fall and get hurt, it's that she has someone to hold and rock her when she does...
Back to the funny and lighthearted. Gertie is singing rather shouting "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" and Yabi is dancing around wearing Claire's volleyball kneepads on his elbows.
