Bananas

Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 04/08/2008 - 9:17pm.

Every day -- and night, too is an adventure.  We are having a blast - the kids are doing so well but this momma is tired.

My friend Tracy who is 16 came today for the day.  She helped me clean and get a little organized.  Normally I either make breakfast, clean up breakfast then hand out snacks and clean that up then we are ready for lunch.  Between getting dinner ready and laudry I don't get much else done.

Yesterday all my kids and a few neighborhood kids were playing in the field across our street.  It is a storm retention area and floods during heavy rain - but is otherwise a field.  A police officer came by and turned his sirens on and his lights and started yelling at my kids.  He said he could charge me for trespassing.  Gertie SCREAMED -- I mean bawled and screamed Police!!  Police!!! I was so upset with the officer for not just kindly asking my kids to leave.  I was borderline disrespectful.  I am a respecter of the Law - really, I believe in respect, but ohhhhh that man was on a powertrip and I was feeling like a momma bear with my little girl histerical.  Claire fell apart too.  She is telling me how she isn't a "criminal type"  -- no, not Claire.

Another adventure today was my four kids standing in the rain (in their raincoats of course and Yabi wearing the bike helmet that goes on his head first thing in the morning and stays on all day...) watching the Comcast man on a really high ladder leaning against the powerlines.  They were outside over 20 minutes just standing there in a line like the the VonTrapp Children... watching the cable man.

Gertie stills comes into our room like clockwork at about 3AM.  I have her trained now so I don't even have to get out of bed.  She brings her own pillow and blankie.   I'm hoping eventually I won't even have to wake.  -- I'll just trip over her in the morning.

I am rationing bananas.  Although I have asked myself - what hurt would it be if they did have 4 bananas?  They would eat as many bananas as I would let them.  I am realizing I will probably never have bananas for banana bread ever again.  There will never be a brown banana in my house.  They will not have a chance.
