Have a few minutes to blog

Submitted by Sarah on Mon, 03/24/2008 - 11:55am.

Happy Easter!  What an amazing message to carry to everything we go through.  Choir you were incredible - you bless me.  How fantastic to come to church and worship, truly stand in awe of God and realize all He has done for us as I held Gertie and Ollie.  Gertie responded to the music right away and clapped her hands.

It has been such a journey filled with ups and downs.  I am trying to focus on the big picture and not that few minutes when I am having to discipline or deal with pouty attitudes. Gertie is so frustrated by the language barrier.  She is so intellengent that the frustration at times makes her shut down and go silent.  This morning we worked on "please mom may I have..."  she giggled. She LOVES to learn.

Yabi does not like waking up and having Dad gone to work.  He really loves his Dad. Well, and Simon and Kyle and Claire.  He isn't to happy to see me in the morning.  He wants everyone but me.  Gertie on the other hand - the story last week was that she was nearly attached to my hip.  She is feeling a little more confident to leave my side.  Actually, yesterday at Aunt Joanne's she did fantastic - she went off on her own almost the whole time.  Not clingy at all.  Her favorite buddy yesterday was cousin Tristan.  I think they played two hours of ping pong.  She would hit that ball clear across the room and he just kept giving it to her and being patient.

We are enjoying Skyping our Uncle Phil and Aunti Tammi.  In fact they joined us for a SUGERFEST - frosting Easter cupcakes and Aunt Robertta's.  We set the lap top on the cournter - and Ollie didn't really care for the cupcakes he just kept sticking the knife of friosting in his mouth and licking on it.  He did however sit ona cupcake.

Trying to wean the sugar from our system today.  Gertie loves sugar and fruit and anything smothered in Ranch dressing.  What am I going to do?  She does like garbanzo beans from the can as well.  Oh boy.

We made up another batch of Injera this morning.  It's an ethiopian flat bread.  Kind of liike a crepe that you only cook on one side.  I bought a ton of TEff flour from Ethipia - it's $6 per pound in the states and like .30 cents per pound there.  So, we made some  more to ferment on the counter.  Last Thursday I started to cook it up at about quarter til five and actually had to call Roland home from work if he wanted to join us for dinner.  The kids went KOO KOO for Injera and kept steaing it off the counter.  When Roland walked in the door Yabi started running in cirlcles and puttting placemats onthe table and asking for plates.

Roland and I are realizing we had such a cake job before with Claire and Simon- and now understand the need for dates.  Before - every night was  kind of a date - - not having a hard time finding time to talk... process things.  Getting kids to go to bed, stay in bed or not getting up through the night.  It's been an adjustment :

I keep realizing how fantastic it was to have Kyle join us on our trip to Ethiopia.  He has had a opportunity to bond with Gert and Olli - and they absolutely adore him.  Kyle is so good with kids, so loving.  Yesterday in church when he showed up they totally lit up.  Someone was always on his lap during the service yesterday.

Blessings to all - thanks for you prayers, your friendship, sharing our joy!
