Loving Summer
Submitted by Sarah on Fri, 06/27/2008 - 4:41pm.
The kids had the faved sitter last night while we had a fun date with friends. Kendra, of course spoiled them at the Jersey Junction. Gertie awoke this morning with the comment that: "Everyday mom and dad go bye-bye and eat, everyday Kendra come! Icecream!"
Good Night Prayers

Gertie and Ollie were extra joyful before bed tonight because Claire and Simon were fighting and earned 15 minutes earlier bedtime than their younger sibs. Ollie had such a spring in his step. Anyway, we were just praying downstairs before I sent them up and the English is coming so well! Ollie started praying : thank you for nana and papa and daddy (yes, he forgot me) and Auntie Lissa and Uncle Davool, Audrey, Lydia, Tara, pause -- long, long pause, still pausing --- so I interject: "thank you for food" Ollie says "shooosh you!" then thank you for food...
Grocery Shopping
Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 12:12am.
I'm having a moment of overwhelming gratitude. Why? Because I went grocery shopping. What was so special you might wonder about my trip to Meijers? Because the only person shopping with me was Roland. He is strong and he pushes the cart. Nor does he interup my train of thought of "what do we need?"
Sunday 6/8
Submitted by Sarah on Sun, 06/08/2008 - 11:37pm.
Well it poured today. Rained like mad. Ofcourse it only rained when we were scheduled to sing at Festival and then cleared up shortly after.
Ollie's favorite past time is still riding his bicycle. During the the downpour Ollie wondered if he could still ride his bicycle. Roland explained to him that the rain would make him very wet if he went outside and it wasn't the best time for riding his bike. Ollie looked at Roland and asked him if he could put his swimsuit on and then ride his bicycle. He is of course pleading his case while standing in the kitchen wearing his raincoat. Our life is straight out of family circus meets Dennis the Menace. Every moment is just so hilarious.
Little Toes

So it seems that Gertie broke her little pinky toe when Ollie was pushing a bar stool over to the kitchen sink so that he could dry dishes and he knocked it over and Gertie was in the wrong place... again. All that can really be done is to tape it to the next one says the Doc. Nuts. Like, she just got her chin stitches out on Monday. So the adventure continues!

I'm in trouble
Submitted by Sarah on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 9:39am.
I'm in trouble... I'm getting a few emails that I havn't been writing any updates. There is still an insane amount of laundry that is right now dumped all over my bed and more downstairs - no change there. As Gertie's hair grows I'm trying to learn how to french braid. I've never been very good at this and as I usually put in a Little House Video while I do her hair, with this new process I think I will need a Feature length film.
We took the kids up to Big Star Lake this past weekend to a friends' cottage. You know that sand that gets in fair, relatively straight hair -- hard to get out? Black hair: impossible.

Roland is at urgent care with Gertie getting her chin stitched up. Over the handbars thing. Life is so crazy. It is so loud and we laugh so much. We took the kids to the beach today - one of our absolute favorite things to do. We hiked in and carried a lunch. We laid out the blanket and I started handing out food. We were trying to explain to Ollie not to touch the sand and then his food, how to sit so we didn't get sand on the blanket. He did really well but then he would forget and crunch, crunch. There was nothing like this in Africa Gertie told us.
Little House
Submitted by Sarah on Tue, 05/20/2008 - 12:40pm.
Gertie's favorite "film" is currently Little House on the Prairie. When we first got home she watched Ella Enchanged until Claire and Simon thought they would barf if they had to listen to Find me Somebody to Love one more time. Anyway, now we are hooked on Little House and they sing along with the Opening tune and when Charles comes on -- Ollie shouts: " Hi Charles! Hi Charles!"
Lunch

I asked Oliver if he wanted spaghetti, pasta for lunch or peanut butter and dabo (dabo is bread). He looked at me and said "chocolate for Yabi?"
